A Look At The Status Of Day 2 Testing In The UK

day 2 test

A day 2 test used to be mandatory for everyone who wanted to enter the UK sometime back, but it seems like the test is being scrapped off for fully vaccinated travelers within 48 hours of arriving in England in a boost to holidaymakers and the travel industry. In January 2022, the Prime Minister, Boris Johnson, announced the change to the remaining testing requirements for fully jabbed arrivals. The testing requirement was removed on 11 February, just before school’s break for half-term.

Passengers who are not fully vaccinated no longer need to self-isolate or take a test on the eighth day after arriving. However, they are still supposed to fill out passenger locator form to show proof of a negative Covid test taken 2 days before they travel, and to take a rapid antigen test within 2 days of arriving. The definition of “fully vaccinated” remains as two doses rather than three.

The passenger locator form, which has to be filled out within 48 hours of arriving in Britain, has also been simplified. As from February 2022, this form can now be completed within 72 hours. It is only because the government got a big calls right on vaccination on dealing with Omicron and they are now open for travel and declare that Britain is open for business.

Sometime back, during a visit to the Academic Centre in Milton Keynes Hospital, the Prime Minister said that removing the testing requirements showed the country was “open for business”. Even with that, we still need to be cautious because the coronavirus is not completely gone. The figures of the people who are being infected have reduced, but that does not mean that you should be ignorant.
